Cancelling Your Car Insurance Policy
If you need to cancel your policy, we aim to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about how cancellation works, what to expect, and how to request it.
Can I Cancel My Policy?
Yes, you can cancel your policy at any time.
Please be aware that charges may apply depending on:
How long your policy has been active
Whether you’ve made a claim
Any applicable charges will be explained to you before the cancellation is completed.
Before You Cancel
Before cancelling, it may be worth considering:
Whether making a change to your policy could be a better option
If cancelling could affect future insurance prices
Making sure you have alternative cover in place, if needed
Our team is happy to help you explore your options.
How Do I Cancel My Policy?
You can request a cancellation in one of the following ways:
Via our online PizzaChat (available during normal working hours)
By emailing [email protected]
Once your request has been received, we’ll confirm the next steps and any charges or refunds due.
What Time Will My Cover End If I Cancel Today?
In most cases:
Your cover will end on the date and time you request cancellation
If you need cover to end on a different date, let us know when you make the request and we’ll confirm whether this can be arranged.
Important: Do not drive once your cover has ended. Driving without insurance is illegal.
Will I Receive a Refund?
You may be entitled to a refund if you cancel your policy.
Refunds depend on:
Whether the policy has already started
How long you’ve been on cover
Whether any claims have been made
Administration fees and time on cover may be deducted.
When Will I Get My Refund?
If a refund is due:
Refunds are typically processed within 30 working days
The insurer must first return the funds before we can release them
The timescale may vary depending on your payment method and insurer
We’ll keep you informed throughout the process.
Will I Get My Initial Payment Back?
This depends on a few factors, including:
Whether the policy has started
Whether a claim has been made
In some cases, the initial payment may be partially refunded after deductions for time on cover and administration fees.
Why Has My Policy Been Cancelled?
Occasionally, a policy may be cancelled automatically. This can happen if:
Payments were not made on time
Incorrect, missing, or misleading information was provided
The insurer is no longer able to offer cover
If this happens, we’ll always explain the reason and let you know what it means for you.
Fees, Terms and Conditions
Cancellation terms apply to all policies, whether cancelled at your request, by us, or by the insurer.
Fees and Costs
Our costs remain the same regardless of when a policy is cancelled. This means our fees are consistent throughout the policy term.
If you cancel your policy at any time after cover has started, including during the 14-day cooling-off period, the following may apply:
The insurer’s pro-rata premium for the time you were covered
The insurer’s administration fee
Our cancellation fee of £40
Any other applicable service charges incurred during the policy term
The premium finance provider’s administration fee (if paying by instalments)
If a claim has been made, or an incident has occurred that may lead to a claim, you may not be entitled to a refund from the insurer. Where a policy is paid monthly, any remaining balance may become payable in full.
Payments and Additional Products
If the insurer’s refund does not cover all outstanding premiums or charges, you will be required to pay the remaining balance
If there has been an overpayment, any refund will be returned to the original payer using the original payment method
Optional add-ons and additional products may not be eligible for a refund once cancelled
Good to know: Cancelling your policy is simple, but it’s important to understand when your cover ends and whether any charges apply. If you’re unsure at any stage, we’re here to help guide you through it.
